Marta Renzi: Choreographer and Independent Filmmaker

Marta Renzi has choreographed dozens and dozens of dances for her own Project Company as well as for many groups in the United States and abroad; the one we wish we could see this summer is her dancing ice cream flavors for Ben & Jerry. She has staged pieces at museums like the Guggenheim in New York, dance venues like Jacob’s Pillow, and in outdoor public spaces – of course for free.

Called “a fearless explorer of all manner of unconventional sites, integrating art into everyday life” when she won an award from New York City’s Dancing in the Streets, she has worked with a wide range of dance ensembles as well as making videos and films in collaboration with artists from John Sayles to Twyla Tharp.

The National Endowment for the Arts, the New York State Council on the Arts, and Rivertown Artists Workshop Community Supported Arts are among the many organizations that have supported Renzi with awards and fellowships.

Renzi has taught and organized and danced herself. You can learn more about her work at http://martarenzi.blogspot.com

The clip we have chosen, “We Are Already Dancing” (2 min, 48 sec) will give you a glimpse of her talents and proclivities; it ends with a few seconds of “bathing beauties” diving into deep blue water. On this hot summer day, you just might want to cool off with the whole four minutes of “Aqua Booty.” Splash!
